The Centre for Research into Business Activity

Welcome to the CeRiBA Homepage.

CeRiBA is an Economic Research Centre for economic analysis of business data. The research focus is on productivity issues particularly using business level data, especially the Annual Respondents Database (ARD) and other linked databases held at the Office of National Statistics. Recent work has looked intensively at the role of intangibles in productivity.

CeRiBA was started in 2001 by Jonathan Haskel with Richard Disney and Steve Nickell. Initial funding came from UK Treasury's Evidence Based Policy Fund (EBPF), the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Office of National Statistics (ONS). Subsequent funding has come from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) under a grant to Jonathan Haskel in the Advanced Institute of Management programme, NESTA, the European Commission and the IPO.

The Centre is now based at Imperial College and has no core funding, but rather is a label for our work.

An overview of the use of some ONS micro data sets can be found here.
